Grading of Vintage Singles
Here are some basic guidelines for the grading of older cards:
- Mint - A card with no defects,
razor sharp corners, even borders, original gloss on the
front with a sharp picture, no signs of wear, no printing
flaws.
- NM - A card with a very minor
defect. Light fuzziness on one corner, a small amount of
original gloss lost, very minor wear on the edges, slight
off-centered borders, minor printing flaw.
- EX+ - A card with a few minor
flaws, but no major defects. Minor wear on the edges,
small fuzziness on the corners, very small amount of
wear, slightly off-centered borders, slight fading.
- EX - A card with minor
defects. There's some slight rounding at some of the
corners, some wear at the edges, off-centered borders,
some possible visable wear.
- VG - A card that has been
handled a lot. Minor creases, rounded corners, scuffing
at the borders, slight notches on the edges, borders can
be off-centered, discoloration, gloss of card can be
gone, and the picture may be slightly out of focus.
- G - A card that has been
handled or scuffed. There's rounding or layering at the
corners and borders may be way off center, loss of gloss
on the face, notching on the edges.
- P - Card may have a tear,
writing on it, or a major physical defect.
